Partially Structured Recruitment
At the beginning of each fall semester, sororities set aside time to invite women interested in joining a sorority. This process is partially structured and typically constitutes a week of recruitment events (rounds) including: Open House, House Tours, Philanthropy Parties, and Preference Parties. Women will have the opportunity to visit all 11 sorority chapters at CMU and participate in an organized recruitment process.

Informal Recruitment (Continuous Open Recruitment)
Informal recruitment generally takes place in the beginning of the spring semester and commences on that last day of classes. During this time sororities are at liberty to extend membership to women interested in joining a sorority. This process is less structured than partially structured recruitment. Individuals interested in the process are strongly encouraged to attend Meet the Greeks and check campus bulletins for recruitment dates and times.

Here is a Calendar for Fall Recruitment 2007

Round 1: Open House
The first round of partially structured recruitment is known as the Open House round. This round serves as the Introductory stage and will be held on campus. Each woman participating in partially structured recruitment will have the opportunity to visit all 11 Panhellenic Sororities here at CMU. The round consists of one day to freely explore all of the 11 sororities at your own pace. This round will typically showcase the aspects of sorority life including: Sisterhood, Financial Responsibility, Philanthropy, Housing Requirements, New Member Education Programs, Academic Responsibility, Leadership, and Social. Appropriate dress for this round is casual, for example jeans or khakis and a nice top.

Round 2: House Tours
The second round of Partially Structured Recruitment is known as the House Tours round. Each woman participating in Partially Structured Recruitment will have the opportunity to select 9 of the sorority houses here at CMU to tour. This round will give the participants a chance to meet the homes of the sorority women and uniqueness of each chapter on campus. Also during this round, participants will be able to meet more women and engage in more conversation. Appropriate dress for this round is still casual.

Round 3: Philanthropy Parties
The third round of Partially Structured Recruitment is known as the Philanthropy round. A philanthropy is a designated charity that each individual sorority has committed to contribute funds through fundraising events. This round showcases the philanthropies of each sorority. During this round, participants will have the opportunity to attend the philanthropy parties of 6 chapters and help with a philanthropy project that will benefit the sororities' philanthropy. Parties are typically longer than those of house tours and provide more time to meet more sorority women and find out more about individual sororities. Appropriate dress for this round is still casual.

Round 4: Preference Parties
Participants may attend up to three houses for this round. Expect a serious atmosphere and a special ceremony that the chapter holds near and dear to its heart. This round will last an hour and a half. Appropriate dress for this round is semi-formal, a nice skirt or dress.
