Student Life Stars Program
The Stars program was created to support, encourage, and recognize student
leadership and achievement in Student Life programming.
Please use this website to view past star award recipients AND to nominate
students that complement the descriptions below (an electronic application form
will be posted each spring semester).
Please note that all nominees must be involved in Office of Student Life
programming-- and that there are new organization awards for registered student
organizations.

The 2008-2009 Nominators, Nominees, and Award Winners were invited to the Stars
Award Reception on April 22, 2009 at 5:30PM in the UC Rotunda for recognition
and hors d'oeuvres. Scroll to the bottom of the page to view the recipients.

Rising Star Award
A rising star is a student who has recently become involved in Student Life
programming. This student shows promise in his or her leadership potential.
When nominating a rising star, please address how the student has shown
excitement and creativity in their involvement.

Shooting Star Award
A shooting star is a student who has taken leadership in Student Life
programming. This student has a proven record in his or her leadership skills.
When nominating a shooting star, please address how the student has shown talent
and drive in their involvement.

Shining Star Award
A shining star is a student who has shown significant involvement and leadership
in Student Life programming. This student is a reliable leader and team member
with skills seasoned by diverse involvement.
When nominating a shining star, please address how the student has shown vision
and maturity in their involvement.

Constellation Award
A constellation awardee is a student who has made a tremendous difference in
Student Life programming. The student has shown deep commitment and has modeled
an understanding of the programmatic goals. This student has mentored new
leaders, initiated or expanded programming and leaves a legacy upon graduation.
The awardee has shown a true love and commitment to CMU.
This student will be a graduating senior and will be selected only by the Office
of Student Life staff. There is no set number of recipients each year.

President's Award
Presented to an individual who has excelled as the President of an organization,
through the use of leadership and organization development. Nominees must have
served a full term as president by the end of the academic year.

Outstanding Advisor Award
Presented to a student organization advisor is recognized for the outstanding
job they have done. Nominations should include information about the advisor's
leadership style, commitment, and contributions to the organization.

Outstanding Program Award
Presented to an organization for a program that is recognized for its
excellence.

Most Innovative Program Award
Presented to an organization that has created a new program/activity that has
enhanced campus life. The program should be unique and have a new twist or
approach.

Outstanding Service Award
Presented to an organization for a volunteer or philanthropy project. The
program will have been exceptional and creative in its implementation and
presentation. The program will have demonstrated commitment to community
service.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is there a limit to the number of students we can nominate?
A: No, there is no limit to the number of nominations from any one group or
individual.
Q: Does other involvement outside of the Office of Student Life count for an
award?
A: The awards will be given for involvement within the Office of Student Life
programs. Involvement in other areas will support nominations but will not stand
on its own. For clarification on Office of Student Life sponsored programming,
please visit www.stulife.cmich.edu.
Q: Is "A Night Among the Stars" open to anyone?
A: At this point, the event is open to anyone. If space becomes an issue, it may
be closed only to winners, nominees and nominators.
